My name is Jeannie Schmid. My calling to serve in the Adult Family Home/ Long Term Care industry came to me initially from my desire to stay at home after my daughter, Katie, was born. I left my job as an administrator in California when the Navy transferred my husband to Washington. Katie was born shortly we were settled in Washington and I opened a child daycare center to be able to work and stay home with my daughter.
I enjoyed the experience so much I began to explore larger housing options so that I might expand . During that search I received numerous suggestions and encouragement from family, friends, fellow church members and the community stating my care giving skills were needed in the Adult Family Home area.
After much prayer, I decided this was my path and have never regretted it. In addition to opening 3 Adult Family Homes, I am very active in the Adult Family Home arena in Olympia and through the state of Washington. Locally, I have served as the Vice President of the Kitsap Peninsula Adult Family Home Association for the past four years as well as serving as the Washington State Delegate for WSRCC (Washington State Residential Care Council). I am committed to the Adult Family Home industry to provide the highest quality care through accredited education.
I love this profession and am grateful every day to be so fortunate as to make a difference to each person who comes into my life. I believe that just because you are unable to live at your own house any longer, doesn’t mean you have to give up being at home. Being in a small home environment enables us to provide personalized care with lots of smiles and hugs. Family is so important and a home should be filled with laughter, family & friends. Once you move in you will never be alone again.
